Maria Bello to Receive LA Spirit Award at Valentino Vintage Runway Show
Los Angeles, CA – Actress Maria Bello will receive The Los Angeles Spirit Award For Style and Substance at Elizabeth Mason, the Paper Bag Princess Vintage Couture Celebrates Valentino, The Last Emperor taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA on Thursday, October 15.
Bello, who is currently in production on the Adam Sandler comedy “Lake House” opposite Kevin James and co-starring Chris Rock and Salma Hayak and the John Wells drama “The Company Men” co-starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones, will receive the prestigious award for her philanthropic work as well as her support of Los Angeles based fashion designers.
Founded by Elizabeth Mason and underwritten by 1stdibs.com, a website offering all things beautiful from vintage couture fashion to the world’s most sought after fine antique and modern furnishings, the $2,500 scholarship will be given to a second year fashion student in Maria’s honor. “1stdibs.com strongly believes in formal education for the study and practice of design. We are thrilled to be involved from the beginning in supporting and sponsoring The Spirit Award for Style and Substance annual scholarship for design students.” states Michael Bruno, founder and president of 1stdibs.com
The runway show produced by Elizabeth Mason, author, collector and connoisseur of exceptional vintage fashion, celebrates the early work of Valentino and is inspired by the documentary Valentino, the Last Emperor. The visually spectacular show will be accented with ‘Valentino Red’ accoutrements from Mason’s own contemporary couture design collection, a selection of which will also be on display prior to the show during a meet and greet with the designer.
Kurt Rothner of Excalibur Fine Estate Jewelry to Design a commemorative pair of star shaped Diamond earrings as a special gift to this years recipient.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.downtownlafashionweek.com. A portion of the proceeds benefits The Museum of Contemporary Art.
“Also, that night at MOCA, Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week will host a Valentino Vintage Runway Show presented by Elizabeth Mason of the vintage store, The Paper Bag Princess. The clothes should be simply spectacular, and actress Maria Bello will receive the L.A. Spirit Award, which will award a fashion student $2500 dollars in scholarship. The runway show will be produced by Elizabeth Mason, and since it’s been the year of Valentino (the doc “The Last Emperor” is no doubt going to be Oscar nominated), she could not have made a more timely choice. Tickets for that are available to the public at Downtownlafashionweek.com – and no tickets will be sold at the door.”
