“One of the most sophisticated shows I have seen this DFWLA. The collection of dresses that were presented in the runway show belong to Elizabeth Mason of the Paper Bag Princess. Ironically, although the show was entitled Valentino, not one Valentino dress was presented. Instead, she assembled a collection of vintage dresses that exemplified her vision of Valentino’s influences ranging from Dior, Versace, and Vicky Tiel to Yves Saint Laurent.
Mason explained that she has no vintage Valentino gowns because once acquired their owners rarely ever loan them out let alone give them up. Actress Maria Bello was awarded the annual style award, which she accepted wearing an black hourglass Elizabeth Mason dress. One striking gown in the show was a 1987 Christian Dior Haute Couture black silk chiffon strapless evening gown with a red silk rose wrap. This dress embodies passion, with the wrap tying around the torso and plunging into a stunning neckline accenting the cleavage. If you ever envisioned the perverse, American Beauty rose petal scene made into an elegant dress, this would be it. Every woman’s dream of coming home to rose petals strewn on the bed would be forever irrelevant if she owned this dress. She would be living the dream each time she wears it!”
